    Dance of Passion tension
I just want to share Athlon (admin of AF forums) joke. It made me laugh.

    IPB Image
    * look at the tension between the leading actresses during a function. The killing intent is overwhelming. Maggie actually has to grab a hold on Gigi or else she'd be attacking Ada and Charmaine right now! *

I must say they all love lovely... and if you have no idea of the Gigi and Charm...umm fight. Go to http://forums.cinple.net/newtvb/

It will become clear when you see what has been happening.

HK Audience: What’s Up LWOLAP vs. UTCOL
    Written by Sidney
Inspired by your post “HK Audience: What’s Up” I have decided to do a little bit of comparisons between LWOLAP and UTCOL, mostly for 2 reasons: 1) I’m bored out of my mind in my Organic Chemistry class and 2) just because I want to know, too. hehe…=D

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
    LWOLAP vs. UTCOL

Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion. One of TVB’s most talked about and anticipating series ever! So why are the ratings so bad? Is it because of the storyline? the cast? the genre? I don’t know. What’s the most surprising is that a series like Under the Canopy of Love could way surpass them, getting a peak of 37 pts for their finale! That’s crazy ratings, when I found the ending just average! Here is what I’ve compared between the two:

    The Love Triangle:

    *Charmaine + Raymond + Sonija*

The deceitful Sonija; playing with Raymond’s heart to the end. Raymond, oblivious to Sonija’s lies and blinded from Charmaine’s love. Charmaine, naïve but faithful; giving so much, but receiving so little. A typical love triangle that have the audience hating one side (Sonija) and loves the other (Charmaine). Who should Raymond go with? Does it matter? Obviously not! Since the ratings have been so horrible.

    *Bosco + Niki + Kevin*

Kevin, a wonderful guy; smart and successful, but not cherishing what he had until it’s too late. Niki, a very naïve girl that thinks of others before herself; gives her full trust to people without expecting it to be returned. Bosco, a very sensitive guy, who’s loyalty to his friends and family is beyond limits. An absolute classic with a very original storyline. With fresh chemistry, and a little humor to added to it, it’s understandable that the ratings are good. Even I can’t decide whom TVB should pair whom: Niki w/ Bosco or Niki w/ Kevin. hmm…

    The Chemistry:

I don’t know how others view this, but I find the chemistry between Sonija, Raymond, and Charmaine in LWOLAP so awkward! The age difference is getting into me the most. No matter how young and beautiful Sonija and Charmaine looks, they’re just so much older than Raymond! Especially when they have to call him 大哥, it makes no sense! Don’t think me wrong, I’m a diehard Raymond and Charmaine fan (Sonija? ehh…) but for them as a couple…not good. Bad call from TVB to expect great chemistry from them. Like TVBsquare once said, “Hydrogen plus Oxygen equals water, it is the concept of chemistry.” I say, chemistry should not only encompass hydrogen and oxygen, but other elements as well. Making H2O = TNT (a bomb!), leaving lasting impressions on the viewers. TVB did just that, but did H2O + TNT = a diffuse unit, unable to spark an interest among us viewers.

UTCOL, on the other hand, is very simple production, with no exciting fight scenes or dramatic sound effects. Yet the chemistry of the cast is what draws us on along with it; wanting to continue to share the laughter, share the moment, and share the love in watching the series. The chemistry between Niki, Bosco, and Kevin is not just a regular H20 chem, but a bomb! (TNT). No way can it be great with just Kevin and Niki or Niki and Bosco or Bosco and Kevin. It has to encompass all 3 for it to make it work! It doesn’t have to be all about love (but it’s better since it did! hehe…), but also had friendship, family, and many laughs that made us like it more and more. A complete success! Never in a million years, will I find such chemistry! I guess as TVBGeneration once said “TVB is home to several underdogs who are waiting to bite back.” I say, Under the Canopy of Love proves her theory right. They do bite back! With vengeance!

    The Performance:

*Niki Chow (UTCOL) vs. Charmaine Sheh + Sonija Kwok (LWOLAP)*

Ok, I’m pretty sure, many of you will automatically think that Charmaine’s acting (& Sonija? ehh…) would beat Niki’s hands down; mostly because of their experience in the industry for so many years. BUT, I found Niki’s character very enjoyable in UTCOL. Not great, but good. Improving slowly with every series she does. (This is Niki’s 3rd series with TVB.) What I found in Charmaine and Sonija’s acting in LWOLAP is that it is so similar to Perish in the Name of Love’s character! But besides the point that they both know kung-fu in this one, (hee yah!) and were sisters in the other, their performance is only so-so. Charmaine’s acting is good. I love her, but there’s no improvement. Nothing “wow” or “Oh my god!” about it. Just good, as usual. Sonija? Ehh…I’m not even going to waste my time with her. (if you guys don’t know by now, I’m not a Sonija Kwok fan; especially not since she stole part of Louis Koo from Jessica Hsuan in ASITP!) I don’t know if it’s a curse on Charmaine right now or not, but her series are just not doing so well when aired. For example: her series, Yummy Yummy, average performance, average ratings; Always Ready, cute character, but gets draggy, again, bad ratings!; Leathal Weapons of Love and Passion, good acting, but nothing special, bad bad ratings. I guess the audiences are waiting, just as I am, for something special coming out of Charmaine’s performance. Niki?...she’s doing pretty good in ratings. Most of her series are really fresh and funny. For example: The Gentle Crackdown; so funny! First time I’ve seen her, okay acting, w/ very high ratings! Under the Canopy of Love, improved on acting, 30+ pts in ratings (average!). I’m beginning to think if TVB really did give the right award to the right person (most-improved actress)! hmm…nope, I don’t think so (not yet, that is).

*Raymond Lam + Bosco Wong (LWOLAP) vs. Kevin Cheng + Bosco Wong (UTCOL)*

This is a definite, hard one to compare; with both sides having TVB’s most promoted young actors (Raymond, Bosco, and Kevin) and both sides having Bosco Wong in it! (hehe… =D )making it real hard for me to compare without getting some fans mad! But as Toomanysidesofme once said, “We all have our own views, our own thoughts. I just like to share mine and to inform you guys recent Stuff about TVB!” I agree with what she said, so I’m saying, I’m going to go on typing and not caring what you think! (Please don’t “bash” me!) In LWOLAP, Raymond did an okay job. Not great, not bad, and not much excitement goes on around him. I’m just not interested in his series, like I used to. I don’t know if it’s his fault or is it TVB’s fault for having cast him in such poor storylines, but I do find him having the same curse as Charmaine: Yummy Yummy and LWOLAP. *Hint to TVB: if you guys want better ratings and make more money, don’t cast them together for anymore series. Failed in both modern and ancient!* Will he improve? I would hope so, since I’m a fan of his, but it all depends on HK audience to support him and decide. Kevin Cheng, in my opinion, is not the greatest actor nor is he the cutest or youngest out of the bunch, but acceptable. I find his acting just average, not much difference from his other series I’ve seen in the past. But have to agree with the other Niki-Kevin fans out there; they’re just so cute on-screen! Without Niki and Bosco, supporting him in UTCOL, making him look great, I would have just skipped Kevin in this review! Bosco…Bosco…Bosco. Got 3 words for him: You the man! I’m beginning to like him more and more. Since he was in both LWOLAP and UTCOL, I guess it’s not his fault that the ratings are so good in one and not good in the other; mostly because his character is about the same: funny and innocent at the beginning, and got more serious towards the end. But just look at his performance lately! Besides counting LWOLAP, all his others series are in top ratings! War of In-Laws, Life Made Simple, Under the Canopy of Love, etc. Every series is different, every character is different, and every cast is different, but he’s still does an amazing job. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking that other actor/actresses are affecting the ratings, too, besides Bosco, but I’m talking about Bosco right now, so needed something to back my theories, making him look good! (excuse this one time please! Thanks! =D)

Overall, here is what I think HK audience likes:

They like comedy. (Who wouldn’t?!) They like drama. (Who wouldn’t?!) They like Bosco. (I’m assuming he’s a good reason for high ratings, but Who wouldn’t?!) They like something simple and enjoyable, that’s easy to understand without using any brain juice (UTCOL + simple storyline = high ratings; LWOLAP + complicated storyline = low ratings). I don’t know if my analysis is right or wrong, but it’s all my opinion. There maybe no curse on Charmaine or Raymond. And maybe I’m just over thinking everything I said earlier! I don’t know! But what I do know is that Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion, a much anticipated series, has been a flop, while an underrated, “underdog” Under the Canopy of Love has been a HUGE success. Life is forever full of wonders and surprises, and TVB ratings/series are no different. Here’s one more advice to TVB: keep it real, keep it simple, keep it fresh. That’s the key to “keep” us, fans, coming back.

Seeing doubles? Fans and Celeb edition

    Written by Sidney

Where’s the best place to read about Jessica Hsuan related info? Here! ToomanysidesofTVB

Although it’s my idea, but I wanted it to be posted on RIta’s blog. Here goes….

I’m seeing doubles! Using TVB Generation’s idea of Double Feature, but instead of the comparison between 2 celebrities, this one is a little bit different: a double vision between a celebrity and a fan. Yes, a fan! Believable? No? lol…well, to me they look about the same. hehe…What do you think?

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Far left: Jessica Hsuan look alike
Far right (girl with cap): Tavia Yeung look alike

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

*the “real” Jessica Hsuan* *the “real” Tavia Yeung*

Don’t you think they look like Jessica and Tavia? I was shocked when I was scanning today’s news on TVB Chinese News, and just so happen to pass right by it. It may be just me. I don’t know. But that’s really pretty cool that fans could look like HK idols, too, and not just celeb-celeb look-alikes. =)
The capture is of Louisa So at one of her fan gatherings recently. So to be fair and not just talk about the “double vision” feature, here’s the full translation of the article:

    Louisa So at fans gathering

Just the other day, Louisa So (Ah So) meet with her fans at a gathering. Playing games with her fans, Louisa also provided over 30 presents to give out to her fans for supporting her all this time.

Louisa will soon be heading to Toronto for a promotional event, and in order for their idol to remain in her fittest form, the fans provided a variety of foods at the gathering for Ah So. Seeing that they even provided her favorite cheesecake, Louisa was very touched and happy. “Tonight we had lots of fun, and everyone had a great time. I’m really going to miss them. I hope that when I’m finish with all my work and not as busy anymore, I’ll be able to meet with them at another gathering real soon.”

Eileen Yeow and Jessica Hsuan knows nothing about gambling

Eileen Yeow and Jessica Hsuan knows nothing about gambling

    Translations by: Sidney @ toomanysidesofme.blogspot.com

Eileen Yeow has been very busy filming for 2 of TVB’s series, “Do Cheung Fung Wan” (賭場風雲) and “Welcome to the House” (高朋滿座). In “Do Cheung Fung Wan,” like Jessica Hsuan, she has to be an addictive gambler. Admitting that both herself and Jessica knowing nothing in gambling, and every time when they were getting ready to go on set, Eileen and Jessica kept on laughing at the dialogues they’ll have to say. “I don’t know what “bak ga lok” is! (some sort of gambling thing! I guess I don’t know gambling that well myself! Hehe…) “While filming, I constantly have to talk back against them and blow? and do other gambling moves, making me laugh!”

During filming, Jessica and Eileen are used to making mistakes, often not knowing what to do. “It’s because I don’t know what the card is or what to do, making it even more difficult for me to remember what I need to do next. The only way was for me to ask the guy actors around to help shout it out, so I can remember!”

Although she plays an addictive gambler in the series, Eileen in real life doesn’t like to gamble. “In a series, I can be a very persuasive gambler, but I always think that gambling is too risky. I’m afraid I’m going to give myself a heart attack! Most of the time, I can just play for fun in a couple rounds of Mahjong with my friends and I’m satisfy.”

Jessica Hsuan & Bernice Liu wearing $1 million worth of diamonds at Bulgari Jewelry Show
Jessica Hsuan & Bernice Liu at Bvlgari Jewelry Show
    Translation by Sidney @ toomanysidesofme.blogspot.com
    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Jessica Hsuan and Bernice Liu were at a Bvlgari Jewelry Show, showcasing Bvlgari’s newest series of jewelry, Parentesi, worth over $1 million! (OMG!!! =O) Jessica was wearing a black revealing evening gown, and was said to be more sexy than Bernice! (lol…personally, I think they both look about the same. Great!)

Jessica was wearing a 23-karat diamond white gold necklace, worth up to 1.28 million dollars, (again, OMG!! =o) and was praising on how shiny the diamonds were and the weight of it was just right. But it gives Jessica lots of pressure walking around with it, especially in a catwalk. The reporters told Jessica she looked very elegant/sexy in her evening gown. Jessica explained that the event planners picked the dress out for her. All she did was prepared herself (psychologically) in wearing the expensive jewelries. These days, Jessica is exceptionally busy filming her new series, Do Cheung Fung Wan (賭場風雲), but is very happy in doing so. Having been noticed in gaining some weight, Jessica explained that Bobby brings a lunch box? food tray? (sorry, it’s something referring to that) on to the set, and asking people to tryout the food! The reporters asked if her upper torso has enhanced due to the weight gain. Jessica laughed & replied, “I haven’t noticed, but my waist line is fast catching up Bobby’s belly!”

Over the years, Jessica has never received any jewelry, but at TVB’s 32th Anniversary, when Jessica won the Best Actress award in 1999, her ex-boyfriend gave her brand-name watch as a gift. Being the gift as one of her most expensive jewelry, Jessica rarely wears it except during big events. Since Jessica doesn’t have a boyfriend at the moment, Jessica thinks that diamonds/jewelry is best if the husband/wife buys it for each other. “If a boyfriend buys it for me, I won’t take it, unless they’re proposing. If a person offers you a $10 million diamond and you take it (not the right other half), it won’t mean anything. If you found the right person, you’ll think a $100 present is worth a more!”

Jessica stated that at the moment that although lots of people she knew are getting marry, she’s not in a big hurry to get marry herself; taking her time in finding the right guy. The reporter asked if she will ever consider Bobby has her other half. Jessica immediately replied, “There’s no chance! Besides, he’s already married, and Bobby and his wife are very compatible for each other.” There have been lots of rumors that celebrities are being under surveillance by reporters. Jessica pleaded, “Please let me go! Hacken (Jessica’s neighbor) has already warned me to close my drapes when I get home. My home is the place where I can relax! Now I’ll have to worry if I’m being watched.”

    -----------c-o-m-m-e-n-t-s----------------
lol They both look awesome as usual. And a million dollar worth!!! "woot!" as I would say.

It does look like she gain some weight...lol reporters are funny. Jessica so has the right look on love and life in general. Go Jessica!

Poor Hacken... I remember reading some news maybe 2 years ago... that Hacken go into an accident with some paparazzi right outside his home. It turns out they weren't even going for him but for his neighbor, Jessica. LOL... They better be careful. They can be very dangerous.

    Guys = Hard Headed

Guys = Hard Headed Most guys are like my friend here:
    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

lol I shall name him Bob…hehe

Rocks…rock solid head when it comes to love. I don’t know why guys are so oblivious to the things around then. You want to scream at them, slap them around to make them see what has always been in front of them. It is so obvious that the girl like the guy, and yet he doesn’t realize it till… a really really long time. It makes you made sometimes because it ends up the girl having to chase the guy. The Cliché is the girl is in danger and the guy finally realizes how much she means to him… happens all the time one of TVB’s formulas

Lets look at some Rock heads…

Detective Investigation Files IV- Louis Koo was such a rock head! He knew Jessica liked him but kept denying the love they already had for each other. Sigh…denial. It took a near death incident to make Louis realized that he cares for Jessica. Well emotions are release finally and you get a very famous scene. Hehe…

Lofty Waters Verdant Bow : Until the end of the series Raymond Lam finally realised that he misunderstood Michelle and that she was important to him

Golden Faith: From the beginning of the series Michelle Ye liked Deric Wan. Unfourtunely for her Deric liked her Sister Jessica.

    Credits to Sidney

Revolving Doors of Vengeance- Ron Ng; it took him so long to admit that he likes Ella Koon, and not as just friends

The Gentle Crackdown- Moses Chan; Niki Chow showed that she had feelings for him, but he just took forever to realize how important Niki is to him

Healing Hands III- Lawrence Ng; everyone told him that he and Francis obviously likes each other alot more than just the friends level, he just shakes it off and had to take a longer time to realize that himself

    Credits to TVBsquare

Michael Miu in Into Thin Air, it takes Michael forever to get Melissa's feelings.
Also, The Academy, it takes at least 25 episodes for Ron Ng and Tavia actually fall in love. It takes them 26 episodes to have a kiss.

WHY CAN'T everyone just like Bosco, who falls for Myolie so easily, lol!!!!

Lol that statement is so true…but when they finally do get together, your so happy that you forget =) Well The chase is one of the best parts in a relationship

Idea came from Sidney's Topic "Why are Guys so Hard Headed" so credits to her!

Top 10 Popularity TV Character Lo Por Dai Yan-Jessica Hsuan
Love Sid so much! woot she gave me her translation for Top TVB 10, Jessica's part! woot!

    Translations by: Sidney

    Top 10 Popularity TV Character
Just Love (Lo Por Dai Yun)
    Go Hei Mun; Jessica Hsuan

Jessica was asked, out of “Lo Por Dai Yun” or “Lo Por Jai,” which character does she likes the best; making it hard for Jessica to choose.

Jessica replied that in “Just Love”, it focuses/centers more on her, and as “Lo Por Jai,” it gives me more satisfaction. *Side Note: mainly because it gives audience enjoyment when watching the series =) *

“Both characters are very good, so it’s difficult for me to choose. If have to, I think I would like to be the strong-will character in Just Love during the day/at work. And when I go home, I’ll like to be treated as a “Lo Por Jai!” The two characters are very different from each other, showing that Jessica is very versatile in any series she stars in. Being “Lo Por Dai Yun” or “Lo Por Jai” makes no difference, what really matters is Jessica be able to seek out her other half.

    Comments on TVB Popularity Awards
I should have wrote this sooner because now, 2 days after the results came out, its over and done with and there is no push for me to write anything. So I guess I’ll just make this short and try not to bore you guys in tears.

Well TVB popularity awards came after Next Awards. Next predicted the main ones that were to be on this list.

    Some DUHS…
    Jessica of course =)
    Bosco and Myolie
And Angela Tong (if she was first on Next not placing in TVB would surprise me so much)
No Raymond: I hate to say it too all Ray fans… Ray is never going to win a popularity contest in HK. If he does one day you guys can throw tomatoes at me.

    Some shockers:
Kevin and Niki? I was kinda surprised that they made it on the list. Kevin’s legal battle may have won much support. About Niki? Guess she is just popular…all her series pretty well plus she is a singer.
No Kenix? Hmm…let ponder this. I thought Kenix had a good relationship with TVB
Jessica won for Just Love? I liked her character in Just Love a lot better then Life Made Simple.

The story was touching, based on the real life story of a blind author. Shirley gave a better then her usual performace, but the her scream annoyed me a bit. The real 汪明欣's touching commentary was perfect bonus and it gave a feeling to it. Her strength and her optimism... Kelly Chen's 誰願放手(Who is Willing to Let Go) was the perfect ending song as it recaped her life.

Should Shirley have won the award?
There are so many other performance so much better then Shirley's performace but because its a true story, and the circumstances. She got the award, at least an Asian won it. The first. I wished the judges could see some other performaces that are so much better. Also the series was so short. This part of it has only two episode. I didn't think its showed enough. 方伊琪 the actress who played the mother, I felt she should have won the award instead. I loved her performace so much more, I can't describe it, even without words the facial expression, its says it all.

Oh yeah Jack Wu is cute as always!

Roger and Jessica at autograph function for Square Pegs DVD/VCD release

Roger and Jessica at autograph function for Square Pegs DVD/VCD release
    Translated by: Sidney @ toomanysidesofme.blogspot.com

Roger Kwok and Jessica Hsuan’s collaboration in TVB’s series “Square Pegs” have just been released into DVD and VCDs. Yesterday, the 2 were at the autograph function; entering through the usage of “stilts” to make their entrance! Playing and feeding each other “Lo Por” cookies, Roger and Jessica started to walk on stilts to entertain the crowd. Roger was the clumsy one of the two; hardly getting any balance, while Jessica was more stable while walking on them.

It has been almost 3 years since Roger used stilts, and he blames that he’s not as agile as he used to. He remembers the day when filming the scene that he kept on laughing; causing numerous NGs on the set. Jessica said that Roger just never had any sense of balance within him! “Every time I see him on the stilts and falling off, I have a hard time not to laugh at him!” Roger responded that the hardest thing wasn’t walking on them, but to keep from laughing during filming! Since then, Roger has often had a craving for “Lo Por” cookies; often challenging himself on how many he can eat. One time, Roger remembered that in one mouthful, he ate 5 cookies at once!

    Jessica thinks she’s getting old!

Jessica Hsuan has been in the entertainment industry for over 10+years, and out of all the series she has ever done, Square Pegs has got one of the highest ratings. Jessica said that when Square Pegs was first release, the SARS epidemic was going around and the economy was in a very bad shape. Seeing that the people are happy and smiling when watching the program, it meant a lot to Jessica. The reporter stated that Jessica seems to have gain a little bit of weight! Jessica just laughed and said, “It may because I’m getting old, and eating a lot more!” Jessica also said it could be because everyday at work, she sees Bobby Au Yeung; causing her to gain even more weight! Saying that both Bobby and herself are getting old, Jessica remembers when she was younger, she could film for 3 nights without rest and would be fine. Now, one day without rest, she thinks it’s very tiring. “Getting old, machine (body) doesn’t work as well as it use to.”

Jessica fears there’s going to be lot of NGs
    Translation by Sidney

Jessica fears there’s going to be lot of NGs

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Filming numerous series before, Jessica Hsuan has revealed that she’s most scared of filming a kissing scene with her good friend, Bobby Au Yeung. Since Bobby’s face looks so much like Garfield, Jessica’s afraid that she can’t stop laughing and will cause lots of NGs.

Every time Jessica and Bobby collaborate onscreen there’s immediate “sparks” flying between the two (meaning they’re very compatible and comfortable with each other). Yesterday, the two were working on TVB’s new series “Do Cheung Fung Wan” and revealed that they were to have lots of intimate scenes with each other. Will there be any kissing scenes? Jessica just waved her it off, laughing that Bobby looks so much like a “coffee cat” and that when they have to do the drunken scene, and it’s going to kill her. “Bobby and I have a very good relationship, but I just don’t like to do drunken scenes. I know for sure I’m going to have lots of NGs, when filming it. Bobby’s face looks so much like Garfield! So funny to look at, huh?!” Bobby was asked if he was worried that, he’s going to be kissed by Jessica, yet he appeared to be very calm about it. Since Bobby has filmed with so many different actresses, TVB’s going to run out of “fresh” new actresses to film kissing scenes for him! Bobby said that the most memorable drunken kissing scene he had was with Yoyo Mung. Before they even had to be called on set, she has already kissed him twice, making him feel like the luckiest man in the world! (hehe…=D)

Also, yesterday, Bobby, Jessica, and Michael Miu went to one of Tuen Moon’s hotel to select a setting for their upcoming scene. Since needing to work day and night, Bobby fell asleep on the sofa to rest up. Once awake, Bobby was back to his usual happy self. The 3 were playing constantly on the set, with Bobby and Michael fighting for a seat on the sofa, Jessica getting splashed with water, and Jessica hiding the Bobby’s script away from him; leaving Jessica laughing until she had a cramp. A definite very funny and crazy group!
